Glorious Sky

Image
The sky was so beautiful as we were traveling down I85 in Virginia this evening.  As the sun was setting, the clouds became a ceiling to reflect some glorious colors.

Movement and Color

Image
I love the colors in this photo and the movement that shows in the trees and other greenery as well as the trail lights from the car.  This was taken in Bracy, Virginia.

Supermoon November 13, 2016

Image
This is a shot I took of the Supermoon. It was just beginning to rise above the trees in my backyard.  I thought the frame of the pine and oak tree gave it a unique look, although about an hour or two later I took a photo of it high in the sky.  I'm glad I took the photo when I did as that following Monday, it was cloudy and rainy and there was no sign of the moon in the sky.

Pridgen's Store, Warren County, NC

Image
This is Pridgen's Store in Warren County. It opened in about 1880. It still contains the original display cabinets, counters, shelves, drawers and the remnants of the old post office and telephone switchboard. It was run by the Pridgen/Davis family who lived in Creek HomePlace, and the store goes with the house which is across the road. There is still some of the merchandise in the store that was there when it closed. The original shelves and counters are there. The original, handwritten sales ledgers are there. The building is about 60 feet long and about 25 feet wide and is two full stories tall. The second floor provides great storage for the old contents of the store. It has a large wood burning stove. After the store closed in the 1930s, the store was used for storage and is currently used as a hobby woodworking shop.

Hester Store and The Depot, Warren Plains, Warren County NC

Image
I pass these structures quite frequently and thought they were good to capture in photos. Warren Plains was a thriving small town because of the railroad. The Depot was constructed in 1863 for the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad. It is made of cypress wood. The Depot, as it is called, holds a place in NC and the nation's history. Civil War General Robert E Lee reportedly presented a speech from the depot's porch before traveling to the area of Warrenton to visit the grave of  his daughter, Annie Carter Lee. Hester Store, one of the 3 standalone stores that stood parallel to the depot and the track line, is the only one of the 3 stores remaining. Owned and operated by George Washington Hester (1869-1931) and his wife Elizabeth A Hester (1879-1938), it became a tenant house after their deaths.
